Shooting date

We got given our date of our shoot so emailed all of the cast to make sure that it was okay with everyone and would work with their sceduele.

To which they replied wanting to know the timings of the whole day as they have teaching to do and other commitments which we do not know yet so will let them know asap.

Foley Sound

Foley sound is a technique used to create every day sounds such as shutting a door. It's made by recording them in a recording studio at the same time as post production. They have to make sure that the sound is in sync with the action going on screen so they match up exactly. Using foley instead of the origional sound allows it to be more clear and exaggerated.

This youtube video clearly explains what foley is why it's done and how.
Mike challanged us to create our own foley sound from this scene of jurassic park, i chose to do the first 30 seconds of it.
For when they open the door and it sqeaks to then switching off the lights i would use this light switch which clicks very quickly and this door handle which you have to lift and it makes the double up and down noise you hear when she shuts the door.

For the section when they are running to hide i would use a wet cloth and hit it onto a marble surface or any smooth surface to sound like the heavy fast running they are doing.

When they go behind the metal table and bang their backs aginst it i would push in and out one of the lids these metal paint pots.

Lastly for when the dinsor strongly breathes out smoke from his nose i would use a fire extingusher and quickly and sharply let out the smoke of it creating the same noise.

Reasearching into filming roles

Each of us has to have one main role for the shooting day but we can also help each other and switch over where nescarry as Media production is very much a collaboration but peoples strengths need to be used to benift each other and the team as a whole so this is why we split it up.

The key roles are:

Director- scripts, choosing actors, working with the sound/ editors to produce the final outcome of the film, staying in budget and much more.

Camera opperator - filming all of the content and using the shot list and story board to make sure nothing has been missed or needs to be added where necsary, set up film equiptment and put it away.

Editor - taking the film footage such as dialogue, sound and sometimes GCI to create the final outcome of the film.

Art director- looking after location, props, costume, makeup and making sure continuity is used throughout

Producer - oversees everything and keeps the scedual eg; what time things should be done by and if we are running over.

As a group we decided that:

- grace is the editor

- Tiggy is the director

- Freya is the Camera opperator

and as a group we will all be the producer and art director depending on how the shoot goes with the roles everyone is given.

I am being the camera opperator because I have a clear idea of what I would like all the shots to look like and give off the correct atmosphere. I also feel fairly confident with the camera in terms of how to set it up, take it down and what all the parts of the camera do which will help with the time efficancy on shoot day.

To prepare before the shoot I need to make sure i have all the correct camera equiptment that i need and would need incase of any changes. I would also need to make sure the camera is fully charged and has enough memory on it.

The materials I would need to bring with me would be the shot list, story board, camera and camera stand.

My role is important as it is the base of how the title sequence is made, without and footage there would be no sequence.

I think the only thin i think that may being a challange is remembering how to use all of the camera automatically without asking someone for a bit of help. So to prevent this i will probably need to have a practise with one of the cameras to get really farmiliar with it.

Editing workshop

Today we had our editing workshop teaching us how to put all of our shots together, crop, move them around etc, to be able to put together our opening title sequences.

The editing software we used is Adobe premier pro which is used by small Youtubers to people with over 2 million subscribers.

Their are four different editing sections for each part of the editing process, the first screen is for the origional selected footage (rushes), the second is the edited version you have done on the footage, the bottom left is all of the different files and the bottom right is where u edit the footage such as cropping it and putting them together.

We were told to constantly save whenever we remember and/or can incase the computer brakes or wifi cuts out so we do not loose any important material and have to start over.

To save easily and quickly press command and 'S'

Footage is the un-edited origional material which has not been tampered with at all also known as rushes and daly's.

The cutting tool is used to crop footage into smaller clips taking out certain parts of a shot. The short cut key for cutting and arrow is shift, right arrow.

In points are where the clip starts and end points are when the clip ends, they are used to select certain sections of a clip exactly.

+ zooms in and - do zooms out on the software

The short cut for undo is Ctrl and 'Z'.

You need to be careful putting footage onto the time
line to make sure all the clips have no gaps in between as when you play the full edited sequence the screen will go black inbertween clips making it look un-proffessional.

Pre Production- set design

 - police tape

- child's bike

- rucksack

- childs helmet

- cones

- bike lights

We are planning on setting up the crime scene on the drive way of Cornhill, The only problem we may have is the size of the drive way as i have been told its narrow.

This is a rough drawing grace and tiggy did on the ipad of what we imagine it to look like from a birds eye view and a face on view.
We are building this mini set as it is the main focus of our title sequence and is where most of the action will be happening.

Pre production- Props

 - 1 handcuffs

- 2 evidence bags

- 1 bell

- fake blood

- camera flash

- police lights (blue and red)

- 1 police car

- 1 white van

We are planning on getting the props like the handcuffs and evidence bags from amazon, Tiggy's has fake blood so she can bring this in and then for the police car we will ask one of the staff to borrow their car and for the van use one of the school mini busses.

This is the stuff i will be buying off amazon.

Here is the props that arrived, i still need to get the costume for the female actor once i know her sizing and if she has any of the clothes herself we can use.

pre production- costumes

police officers

- 2 white shirts

- 2 pairs of black suit trousers

- 2 pairs of black shoes

- 2 high vis jackets

- 2 policeman hats

We are going to ask the cast if they have the shirts, trouers and shoes as these are usually things most people own but if not we will buy them from Primark. For the jacket and police hat we will get them off amazon but only need one jacket as grace alwready has one.

The costume for one cast member will be around £30.

We have chosen this as the police man costume as this is what a typical english police officer would wear creating a realistic look.

Firensics

- 2 all white full body suits
- 2 blue masks
- 2 black shoes
- 2 blue gloves
- 2 blue shoe covers

We are planning on ordering all of this off of amazon, The costume for one cast member would be roughly £12 .

We have chosen these items for the firrensics as this is what they would wear on the job steriotypically.

woman

- 1 blue straight leg jeans
- 1 pink knitted jumper
- 1 white trainers

We are going to ask the cast if they have the jeans and trainers as these are also things that people typically own and will get the jumper from primark, if they dont have these we can also get them from primark.

It will probably cost around £20.

We chose this costume as we think its a costume which shows wealth and comfort helping to subvert from the sterio typical criminal.

Shot list

This is the shot list of our differnt scenes we will be filming, it helps with organisation and making sure not to miss any clips and stop actors from waiting around and waisting time.

Our final title sequence
