Our primary target audience is 21-25 year olds primarily male but also female.
How would our sequence engage our target audience?
This moment in our sequence would highly engage our target audience as its an extreme close up of a very intense moment when the audience realise that it is blood slowly dripping off the bike wheel, immediately showing the thriller crime aspect of the film causing a lot of tension. This moment also ties in with Jay Blumer and Katz uses of gratifications theory in terms of diversion and escapism as this shot really draws in the target audience due to the intenstity of it making them feel like they are seeing this in real life and escaping from the 'real world'. It is also a rather graphic/gory shot which would attract a more mature audience such as 21-25 yr olds compared to 12-14 yr olds. This mid shot creates a large cliff hanger engaging the target audience as it ends on a black screen all of a sudden making the audience question whats going to happen next and where the storyline will follow to. The use of the close up and mids shots give a very personal and intense feeling as if the audience are in the action following it all creating an immersive experience. This shot is also very much aimed towards our target audience as they would be able to understand the immense stress and shock this woman would be feeling in this moment as they are at similar ages/stages of their lives, being able to relate to a certain extent.
This POV shot into an extreme close up is really good at capturing two different aspects of what is going on, one from an unknown persons through the POV creating a mysterious and suspicious tone and also the extreme close up making the audience aware that this woman is very much a suspect also making the audience question if her reaction to all of this previously is genuine or not. This would allow the target audience to all discuss after watching it what has happened and everyones opinions on the situation and reflecting on what they have seen. This montage of close up shots is very eery due to the stillness and solitude feel, tying in with Jhon Fiskes theory of enigma codes where producers want audiences to keep watching by adding in unanswered questions keeping the audience hooked so they carry on watching to find out what has happened, why and how. The shots are also in line with the action and low to the ground. The use of the slow montages are very similar to another product called Gone girl, a 2014 thriller by 20th century fox. Which also includes long still shots also being used to create the empty and tension filled atmosphere.
The use of a wide/mid shot with forward focus and action going on behind intrigues the target audience in terms of what is going on behind the main focus point whilst also concentrating on what the investigator is doing and who is he talking to. Giving the audience to much to focus on at once that they are fully immersed in the action trying to fully figure out what is going on and trying to predict what could happen next.
In conclusion i think that we were fairly successful in engaging our target audience giving them a variety of shot durations and diffrent types of shots. I think the only thing we could have done to further engage the audience is to add more action shots of maybe the forensics putting evidence into their van or maybe some diegetic dialogue of the woman trying to talk her way out of it.
This is the film poster I made for our title sequence, In this poster I have included hints and ideas of the narrative and what may entail in the film also giving a mysterious tone such as the close up of the blood dripping from the wheel and the smashed helmet all of this engaging the target audience as it has a crime thriller effect to it.
If our film was to be distributed by a studio it would be vertigo,
Vertigo was launched in 2014 by Rupert Preston and is a UK film distribution releasing small independent films such as Bronson, Host and The boiling point. I would release our film with them as they have distributed films and tv shows very similar to ours such as Bronson a crime thriller. Vertigo is a UK based studio and releases small and big films with a lot of them being successful. Vertigo has started many careers using unknown actors such as tom hardy who at the time of Bronson was an unknown actor, fitting in well with our film as we have also used unknown actors and is a UK based studio.
To distribute and sell Bronson vertigo released limited edition DVD, in cinemas and most importantly onNetflix which it is still on today and is a very popular streaming site with over 222 million subscribers allowing for a wide international audience which is something which would be good for our film as its a crime thriller, a genre which is popular internationally as well as nationally.
