The film industry- Belstone pictures

Belstone pictures was founded by Finn Cardigan Bruce when he left sixth form collage. He worked on multiple film and tv shows teaching him what life on a set is like. He worked on sets such as Downton abbey, and x factor and then worked in LA doing lots of different things further helping him to understand and find his way in the film industry. He then
decided to make Belstone his main focus in 2016 based only in the UK where he has now created a full production and gross successfuly and has been going for 5 years.

Belstone also own a production service called FCB which includes: Bonnebouche media, pub to your door,Apollo your travel buddy, the bigger picture and many more. These all contribute to helping belstone pictures as they provide an extra sauce of income allowing higher budget for production, travel and create an impact.

Their biggest box office sucsesses include:
1. Tank 432, released in 2016 with a gross of $27,570 and a budget of £1 million.

2. Tucked , released in 2019 with a gross of $23,086 and a budget around $0.3-0.6 million.
Does Belstone work with the same actors and directors?
They have worked with different un-known actors such as Rupert Evans and Jordan Stephens and producers such as Fin Bruce and Jennifer Handorf this is because it is less expensive so more money can be spent on the production its self. However this can benefit the actors and producers as it could be their breakthrough film meaning they get seen helping them to get further up in the industry.
Belstone have also teamed up with multiple production companies as it reduces risk of going bankrupt but also limits quick growth as gross has to be split.

They currently have 9 films in pre-production including:
  • Broken Cove
  • Room 17
  • Cats in hell
  • Open heart
  • The dealer
They have 3 films in production including:
  • Tracks
  • Hollow
  • Sanctury of collell
They have 2 films in post-production including:
  • Paul Doods deadly lunch break
  • Improve your life now!
Being a small institution is an advantage as it means they have more creative freedom meaning worldwide issues can be made aware through the film to the audience and create an impact which is exactly what Belstone's aim is. More risks can also be taken to an extent as not much money has to be spent on it but could become popular leading to higher gross.

The film industry- Walt Disney

Walt Disney was origionally owned by Walt and the Disney family starting in 1923 meaning it has been running for 98 years, but now has been over taken by many co-operations, the biggest being Vanguard Group inc., owning 127 million shares. Other holders include the likes of BlackRock inc and State Street corp. These companies also all own and invest in other companies helping Walt Disney as they can use this extra income to invest more into the Disney company.

Walt Disney became well known in 1928 when the Mickey Mouse cartoons were produced starting with the first one named 'Steamboat willie' and finished in 1953 called 'The Simple Thing'. These included the characters of Mickey, Minney, Donald duck, goofy, Pluto and more which became a huge sensation leading to international popularity for multiple years. These were such a hit that some extra short ones were released from 1983 to 2013.

Walt Disneys main headquarters is in Burbank,California in the United states but also has 10 other office  locations based across 8 other countries including France, India and Japan etc.

Disneys biggest box office successes include:

1.avengers endgame, released in 2019 with an gross of $2,797,800,564 and a budget of $356 million.
2.star wars ep VII: the force awakens, released in 2015 with an gross of $2,064,615,817 and a budget of $306 million.

5. the avengers, released in 2012 with an gross of $1,670,719,887
Does Disney work with the same actors and directors?
Disney works with different actors and the same depending on how relevant they are. They preferably go for A-list actors such as Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland as this helps to reach an international audience as everyone knows who they are which increases their revenue.
Disney also has a group of directors they use for specific films depending on their strengths and genre they specifiy in. For example, Thomas Schumacher is one of the theatrical producers where as John Lasseter is a film director, animator and producer.

They currently have 13 films in pre production including:

  • The Marvels
  • Blade
  • Hocus Pocus 2
  • Peter pan and Wendy
  •  matched
They have 8 films in production including:
  • Ant man and the wasp
  • Indiana jones 5
  • Lightyear
  • Thor: love and thunder
  • Ponochio
They have 6 films in postproduction including:
  • The little mermaid
  • Turning red
  • Disenchanted
  • Home sweet Home alone
  • Sneakerella

Being such a big institution is an advantage as you have more financial freedom meaning budgets can be bigger creating a more likely chance of sucssesful films creating even more income nationally and internationally. This then allows the institustion to buy other companies for example Disney own Marvel, Pixar, 20th century fox, ABC, fox, National geographic, Hulu and many more. Which will eventually lead to Disney owning most films made and allows for a wider audience range from as they have action films made by marvel to animation made by Pixar.

Genre

Genre

- Genre is a way of categorising media products based off of its conventions. They are important to the audience as it helps people to decide what types of movies they like and dislike and is also important to institutions as it helps to target an audience, set rules and guides.

- Sub-genre is a category within a genre, its where the product has a slight bit of another genre but not enough for it to be a hybrid. For example the movie halloween. Its genre is horror and the sub-genre is thriller.

- Hybrid genre is where two main genres are put together for example a rom-com such as Notting Hill. This benefits the institutions as well as it helps to attract more than one audience creating more popularity towards the product.
